Assignments window

The Assignments window is one of the four windows of the LWW program that remains permanently open and cannot be closed by the user. It displays the full information about assignments in the active branch selected in the Branches window.

The Assignments window contains the listing of all transitions in the active branch, on which the assignment actions can be performed. Its title bar contains the sequential number of the branch (from the Branches window), its name and the set of upper/lower quantum numbers (e.g. K, l for the symmetric top molecules). Every line of the Assignment table contains the upper/lower quantum numbers J, the calculated (WnCalc) and observed (WnObs) wavenumbers. WnCalc is calculated as the difference of vibration-rotation energies of levels read from the Energy file. The listed WnObs is a wavenumber from the peaklist file which is found nearest to the predicted WnCalc. The Error column of the Assignment table contains the difference WnObs-WnCalc. The UNC column contains the uncertainty of the assigned transition wavenumber with the properties described further. All the entries WnCalc, WnObs, Error, and UNC are given in cm-1 units.

The lines of the Assignment table and the individual cells are sensitive to mouse and keyboard events, which allow making assignments, i.e. assigning correct quantum numbers to wavenumbers of the peaklist. The assignment actions in the Assignments window are synchronized with the contents of the Loomis-Wood (LW) and Spectrum windows. On the other hand, when the assignment action is performed in the Loomis-Wood window, it results in a synchronized update of the content of the Assignments and Spectrum windows.

The Assignments window offers a possibility of making multiple assignment/unassignment actions, done on several peaks at a time.
